Mr Mishank Jain is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a sub-specialist interest in cataract, glaucoma and refractive surgery, holding a substantive consultant post at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust and seeing private patients across London, Surrey and Berkshire. He trained at University College London and completed his ophthalmology training in the North Thames programme centred at Moorfields Eye Hospital, followed by two further glaucoma surgical fellowships.
Areas of expertise
Cataract surgery
In cataract surgery, Mr Jain manages both routine and complex cases and offers the full range of intraocular lens options, taking time to understand each patient’s daily activities and visual priorities before recommending the lens that best suits their needs and lifestyle.
Glaucoma
In glaucoma, his work spans the complete treatment pathway — from medical management and laser through to minimally invasive and major surgery — and he introduced the Paul Glaucoma Implant to Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. Because cataract and glaucoma often occur together, he is well placed to assess and treat both as part of a single, joined-up plan.
Refractive surgery
Lens replacement surgery, sometimes called refractive lens exchange, replaces the eye’s natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens to reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses. It uses the same technique as cataract surgery, but is performed on a clear lens rather than a clouded one. Mr Jain holds the Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ Certificate in Laser Refractive Surgery (CertLRS).
Your consultation
Consultations are unhurried, with time taken to explain the diagnosis in plain terms and set out the realistic options. Where surgery is recommended, Mr Jain carries out the procedure and follow-up care personally, so patients see the same consultant throughout.

ITV News Meridian
Mr Jain was recently interviewed on ITV News Meridian about the introduction of the Elios Excimer laser for the treatment of glaucoma at Frimley Park Hospital. He highlighted the benefits of treating glaucoma at the same time as cataract surgery and the specific differences of the Elios treatment compared with other forms of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.
